Pinehurst Manor

image"We felt like millionaires of yesteryear when staying in this historic mansion, with its spacious well-furnished "public" rooms, high ceilings, grand staircase, dark wood panelling and ornate carving. The views are spectacular over the vast grounds with their many mature trees. Lawns sweep down to the Mississippi River and a stream runs through the property over waterfalls that were in full flood during our early spring visit.

Pinehurst Manor's location in Almonte adds lots to its appeal, as this heritage town, so close to Ottawa, is full of charm and is obviously on the upswing. In the space of an afternoon and evening, we discovered a newly opened and very stylish coffee shop/bistro and a delicious restaurant, both in beautifully renovated old buildings on the main street. Adding to the romance of the place was the delightful River Walk that we ambled along, with its waterfalls and views of historic spaces."

Pinehurst Manor is a historic waterfront mansion set on 7 secluded acres within a 10 minute walk of downtown Almonte and only 20 minutes from Kanata in the West end of Ottawa.

The Manor sits on a hill overlooking the Mississippi River and 2 waterfalls with breathtaking views of the manicured lawns and 100 year old oak and maple trees.

In March 1890, the Almonte Gazette announced that Bennett Rosamond had awarded contracts for the building of Pinehurst and would be "the handsomest house and prettiest location in town." The Rosamond family owned one of the largest woollen mill companies in Canada employing more than 500 people in Almonte at their peak in the late 1800's.

The interior of the home boasts almost all the original features including stained glass windows, tiles imported from England, fine wood panneling, ceilings and staircase, 8 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, 10 fireplaces and a glorious sunroom and patio overlooking the waterfalls.

In 2009 Patrick and Dee Ashby purchased Pinehurst and in 2011 opened the historical estate into a place that everyone can enjoy.
